| Bio: | Husband and wife fishing team and charter guides, Troy and Jill Sapp have a passion for both fishing and protecting the waters where they spend so much of their time. The Sapps own Fins & Tails Charter Services, running more than 200 charters per year. Troy and Jill run charters in Tampa Bay and Tarpon Springs, as well as Boca Grande and offshore excursions from the Florida Keys. Troy serves as Senior Vice President of the Florida Guides Association and Administrator for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Division of Law Enforcement’s Trained Eyes Program. Troy comes from a long line of fisherman, and began fishing commercially at age 13 for his grandparents who owned a seafood market that dates back to the 1800s. In the late 1980s, Troy noticed a significant decline in fish stocks of both offshore and inshore species at a rate that was even apparent to a young man that was making good money fishing commercially. It was at that time that Troy pursued his Captain’s license, and committed his efforts to helping protect this valuable resource for both commercial and recreational anglers. Troy has addressed his views on conservation, law enforcement and legislative issues with Florida’s leading boating and fishing media, and has been quoted as a credible resource in the likes of Gulf Coast Angler, Salt Water Sportsman, the Sun Herald, Boa Beacon, St. Petersburg Times, Tampa Tribune and the Chevy Florida Fishing Report, among others. Troy currently writes six times per month for the “Captain’s Corner” of the St. Petersburg Times. Troy and Jill’s passion for the sport of fishing can also be found in their tournament success. Since 1999, the fishing couple has won the Chuck Lamar Celebrity Classic Fly Division, the Angelus Redfish Tournament, the Tarpon Tide Tournament, the Tarpon Tides Ladies Tournament, the YMCA St. Lukes Slam Tournament, the Tampa Bay Lightening Charity Tournament, and the Pasco Builders Snook Tournament. The couple has also had top-five finishes in the Fosters Tarpon Tournament, the Spring of the Flats Tournament, the Professional Tarpon Tournament Series, the Peter Assimack Memorial Tournament, and the Tarpon Tide Catch the King Tournament. Troy and Jill were also the first husband and wife team to ever finish in the top five of an FLW Redfish Tournament, placing third in 2007. Troy and Jill donate four-six charter trips annually to local charities, including the Pediatric Cancer Center, St. Judes, The Angelus Foundation, Florida Guides Association and Tampa Bay Restoration. |
